Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex (PDTR) – Toronto

What is Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex? (P-DTR®)

Most traditional musculoskeletal treatments focus on your body’s hardware system – the joints, muscles, bones, ligaments, and so on; however, P-DTR® is a system that combines neurology, biomechanics, neurophysiology, and anatomy to look at your body’s software system.

Jose Palomar, an orthopaedic surgeon, developed P-DTR® to help understand information from the body’s sensory receptors and motor responses.

P-DTR® is a functional view of the neurological system that focuses on how and what your brain receives in terms of input (information) from all the sensory receptors in your body. Injury, trauma, or even bad habits can disrupt these inputs, leading to chronic pain, discomfort, or dysfunction (output) – even while your body’s mechanics may be in perfect condition! P-DTR® focuses on correcting these inputs or stimuli, cleansing these “communication pathways”, and allowing the body to function optimally.

Can P-DTR Toronto practitioners help me?

Our practitioners at Pure Motion Centre utilize P-DTR® to help understand the root cause of the issue. We use a series of precise muscle tests and stimuli to the body, including vibration, stretch, and pressure. This stimulates sensory receptors and helps us understand your motor response to help alleviate pain and dysfunction.

Benefits of P-DTR® may include: reducing acute or chronic pain quickly, increasing range of motion, strength and stamina and optimizing athletic performance. We have used P-DTR to help patients with concussions, post-operative rehabilitation, headaches, dizziness, tinnitus, neck pain, back pain, and rehabilitation from sports injuries.
