Pregnancy and Chiropractic Care

Pregnancy Chiropractic Care

Pregnancy brings about tremendous and wonderful changes. A growing babe and bump alters the centre of gravity and changes posture and biomechanical forces in the joints of the body. Hormonal events, such as the release of relaxin, also play a role in many of the aches and pains experienced during pregnancy. Pregnancy-specific chiropractic care offers a safe and effective way to help the body adapt, using gentle manual techniques, stretches, and home exercises.

The Webster Technique, a specific chiropractic approach designed for pregnancy, focuses on improving the biomechanical function of the sacrum and pelvis. Addressing these structures can aid in the management of low back and pelvic pain, a condition that up to 90% of pregnant individuals will experience. Chiropractic care is safe throughout all stages of pregnancy and can provide relief from many common aches and pains.

Exercise Rehabilitation and Pregnancy

Physical activity is safe during all stages of pregnancy and maintaining activity levels throughout pregnancy is strongly recommended in the literature. Exercise during pregnancy has been shown to reduce possible complications and optimize the health of both the parent and growing babe. Our practitioners incorporate the most recent guidelines for physical activity throughout pregnancy while meeting the individual goals and expectations of each patient, to best support them during pregnancy and beyond.

Kinesiology Taping during Pregnancy

Kinesiology tape is a great tool that can be used to support many different conditions during pregnancy, without restricting range of motion. It is proposed to facilitate support and stability to muscles and joints, improving blood flow, reducing pain and swelling, and controlling inflammation. An application of kinesiology tape typically lasts three to five days if applied correctly. Instructions for proper removal and use will be provided at every visit.
